Any One Piece fan knows by now that Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus is far from being just a funny little comic about pirates. We’ve read about classism, genocide, slavery, tyranny, racism, and child labor — all while reading what many believe to be a silly little shounen.

As Oda introduced the many different races in the One Piece universe, he intentionally presented them with some sort of socio-political commentary. Arcs such as Fish-man Island and Sabaody Archipelago touch on topics like segregation and slavery, further expanding on some of the most commonly seen races in the story: Merfolk and Fish-men. Since then, more and more races and tribes have been introduced to the story.

We now know for certain that races have long been persecuted for their uniqueness by the likes of the World Government. For what ends, though, we couldn’t tell you for sure, but something definitely smells fishy. Pun intended. With that said, let’s explore all the known races in One Piece thus far.

Humans

Humans are, by default, the vast majority of the characters we meet in One Piece. They’re the rulers of the world, with the World Government being founded and operated by humans. Unlike what we may be led to believe, in the One Piece universe, humans are not necessarily tied to a small stature. They can be up to 26 feet tall (8 meters) and even have animalistic traits like horns or scales. Gigantic heads or other unusual features are also not uncommon traits among humans.

Giants

One of the first races introduced in the story is the Giants. Physically, they’re not much different from humans — aside from their enormous size. They are, by far, the largest and tallest sentient creatures in the story, with the smallest giant recorded in history being 12 meters tall. We’ve long known that the Giants’ home country is Elbaf, but there is more than one type of Giant. We have ancient giants, like Oars and Little Oars Jr., who are distinguished by their horns and unusual skin tone. Additionally, we have the Yeti Cool Brothers, who are likely from a different giant tribe as well.

Fish-men

Image of Jinbe talking, next to an image of Fisher Tiger in the Amazon Lily Flashback from One Piece
via Toei Animation

Fishmen are, most likely, the One Piece race we’ve grown most accustomed to. As the name implies, Fish-men are hominids with traits reminiscent of aquatic creatures like sharks, whales, or even octopi. They often have unusual features like an extra arm, leg, or sharp teeth. They have both lungs and gills, allowing them to live on land and in the sea, as we’ve seen in Arlong Park. Generally, Fishmen are the conduit characters to the theme of race and by proxy, racism, in One Piece, and we even have Jinbe among our Straw Hats.

Tribes

via Toei Animation

Truthfully, if we were to name all the different tribes in One Piece, we’d never leave this article with a sane mind. For your sake and ours, we’ll just touch on some of the most important tribes we’ve encountered over the years. You may recall the Kuja Tribe, led by our very own Boa Hancock. Although they may look like humans in nearly every aspect, they have some key differences. The Kuja Tribe has an aptitude for learning Haki, they are inherently connected with snakes and are known for only giving birth to women.

The Mink Tribe are also characters we’ve grown accustomed to in Zou. They are essentially humanoids who possess features of mammal animals like rabbits, cats, or dogs. We also have the Three-Eyed Tribe, represented by Pudding in Whole Cake Island. We know for sure that she’s been persecuted for her powers and, most of all, her unusual appearance and third eye.

Merfolk

via Toei Animation

Merfolk also play an important role in One Piece. Unsurprisingly, merfolk are creatures that have the upper body of a human and the tail of a fish. Much like Fishmen, merfolk are capable of living on land. However, mermen are not able to walk on two legs, whereas mermaids’ tails can split in half when they turn 30, allowing them to walk. We’ve met our fair share of mermaids, from Shirahoshi to Camie and Kokoro, and by now, the Straw Hats have long established a good relationship with the merfolk. Just don’t let Sanji catch sight of Mermaid Island again.

Skypieans

via Toei Animation

Also known as Sky People, Skypieans are a race of people that live on various islands clouds in the sky. They’re mostly reminiscent of humans, with one very obvious difference: they have small wings on their backs. Generally, Skypieans are a peaceful group, and throughout the Sky Island arc, we’ve met quite a few of the residents on the Angel Island, like Mochi and Gan Fall.

Moon People

via Viz Media

Moon People are different from Skypieans in that these winged extraterrestrial creatures originated on the Moon and are considered an ancient civilization. They are the ancestors of Skypieans, Shandians, and Birkians. They were forced to migrate to the Sky Islands due to a lack of resources, settling and expanding there. They mostly resemble humans, but like Skypieans, they also have small wings on their backs. Generally, the Straw Hats didn’t interact with Moon People, but we know of their existence due to ancient drawings from the Skypiea arc.

Shandia

via Toei Animation

Much like the Moon People, the Shandia tribe was a group forced to relocate and adapt to the Sky Islands. However, unlike the Moon People, the Shandia tribe were actually forced out of Jaya and the Blue Sea, sent above by the Knock Up Stream. They have a strong history tied to Mont Blanc Noland, and have adopted many characteristics from the Skypieans, such as the usage of modern clothing. Physically, they also have wings, albeit much larger than those of the other Sky Island residents — aside from Birkans.

Birkans

Birkans are a race of people hailing from the sky island of Birka. Although we don’t know how many survivors remain after Enel decided to obliterate his homeland, we do know that the few survivors completely worshipped Enel. So much so, that details of their past customs are clouded by Enel’s presence and their devotion to him. Their appearance tends to resemble humans; however, they are known for their larger wings that point downwards, except for Enel, who has no wings whatsoever.

Dwarves

via Toei Animation

We met dwarves in One Piece already, and as you can imagine, they’re humanoids that are incredibly small, have fluffy tails, and pointy noses. They are so small that they would fit in the palm of an average-sized human. Up until now, the Straw Hats have only encountered the Tontatta tribe of dwarves near Dressrosa, but we’ve already become acquainted with their quirks. Dwarves have incredible strength for their size, capable of even damaging buildings, and they also have above-average speed.

Lunarians

via Toei Animation

Lunarians are a race that was believed to be extinct until we met King. He is the only member of this race believed to be alive, though Vegapunk has briefly mentioned that there are a few Lunarians left in the world, alluding to the possibility of more Lunarians existing aside from King. We know that they can generate and manipulate flames and that physically, they are known for their brown skin, silver-white hair, and large, dark wings. Their scarcity in numbers, likely due to persecution, is also one of the many reasons why Big Mom had an increasing interest in King.

Kinokobito

via Toei Animation

For the sake of accuracy, we’re adding Kinokobitos to the list, although no information is known about them other than their mushroom-shaped bodies and four-legged humanoid figures. We have only seen one example of this race — in Big Mom’s room, as part of her race collection.

Hybrids

An image of One Piece's Pudding and another one of Kuma, both smiling
via Toei Animation

Hybrids, as the name suggests, are composed of mixed-race individuals in the story, and we’ve met plenty of them. Big Mom’s offspring are often prime examples of hybrid characters, with many of her children being half mermaids, or half Snakeneck. We have also met Wotans, who are half Fish-Man and half giant, and Buccaneers, exemplified by Kuma, who are a near-extinct race stemming from a common ancestor, with some giant ancestry — making them an almost full-blooded race with semi-hybrid qualities.

8 actresses who could play Kureha in Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ https://wegotthiscovered.com/netflix/8-actresses-who-could-play-kureha-in-netflixs-one-piece/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/netflix/8-actresses-who-could-play-kureha-in-netflixs-one-piece/#respond Mon, 29 Jul 2024 13:34:32 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1729884 Honestly, get anyone from this list for Doctorine and we're happy, Netflix.]]>

For a few weeks now, we’ve been receiving confirmations for all the new additions to the second season of the One Piece live-action series — and we can’t say we’re at all upset about the Baroque Works casting. The main characters of the upcoming arcs, however, still remain quite a mystery.

By now, we know that the upcoming season of One Piece will cover the story up to Alabasta. Major characters like Crocodile, Ace, Kureha, and Dr. Hililuk will be introduced to fans — though we still have no clue who will be playing them. While we can be almost certain that as we get closer to the release date, we’ll finally learn who will be portraying these characters, we kind of want to play God here and try to guess who might be on the casting list for the world’s most tsundere doctor, Kureha, also known as Doctorine.

Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis in Everything Everywhere All At Once
Image via A24

Perhaps the most popular casting option for Dr. Kureha is none other than Jamie Lee Curtis — to absolutely no one’s surprise. The Everything Everywhere All at Once actress has shown interest in playing Kureha multiple times, even before the live-action series was announced. Similarly, the OPLA showrunner Matt Owens has also suggested that their teams should talk, knowing full well that Lee Curtis would undeniably be the perfect Dr. Kureha.

Sadly, it appears that there might be a scheduling conflict, now that the actress is set to reprise her role as Tess in Freaky Friday 2 and shooting has already begun. Additionally, Curtis’s recent public support for Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7 has sparked controversy. Many fans, concerned about her political stance, have decided they no longer support Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Kureha, fearing that a Zionist might become associated with the idea of One Piece.

Jane Lynch

Jane Lynch as Sue Sylvester smirking on Glee
via FOX

Perhaps the second most popular choice for Chopper’s mentor is the Golden Globe winner Jane Lynch. Known for her role as Sue Sylvester on Glee, it’s hard to picture her without her iconic red tracksuit — but we can definitely imagine her wearing Kureha’s signature sunglasses and leather jacket. There’s only one catch: Dr. Kureha is a very physical role. Despite being 141 years old, she’s still strong enough to beat up Sanji and Luffy for calling her old. Now, we can’t attest to Lynch’s physical prowess in a choreographed fight, but hey, that’s nothing a body double couldn’t solve.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in "And Just Like That"
via MAX

When it comes to physical appearance — and Sarah Jessica Parker, if you read this, please don’t take it personally — the actress who would most likely knock it out of the park would undoubtedly be our favorite Carrie Bradshaw. Allow me to explain before you get defensive: Parker is absolutely gorgeous, but her facial structure and long blonde hair just scream Dr. Kureha. On top of that, we still remember her as Sarah Sanders, one of the witches in Hocus Pocus. Do you know who else is described as a witch? Dr. Kureha. Boom. Hire me as a casting director.

Emma Thompson

Image via Warner Bros. Pictures

Yet another fictional witch portrayer on our list is Emma Thompson. Many of us grew up watching Thompson as Nanny McPhee and her odd yet fun adventures, so by now, we can be certain that she would embody Dr. Kureha like no other. While she might not be as physically ready to do some heavy stunting, much like some of the entries on this list, a body double would do the job quite nicely. However, we must admit that while she would be an amazing choice, surely the budget for the second season— no matter how large — would probably not benefit from casting one of Hollywood’s greatest gems.

Jessica Lange

Jessica Lange in American Horror Story
via FX

Jessica Lange is an absolute icon. She’s the face of American Horror Story. We both fear and admire her, which is exactly how I would describe Dr. Kureha. By now, we know Lange can be incredibly intimidating when needed, but she can also portray caring characters or moments, making her an ideal choice for Dr. Kureha. Additionally, her dancing sequences in AHS demonstrate her physical prowess, so a fight scene would be no trouble for her. That is, of course, if Ryan Murphy is willing to let go of Jessica Lange, even just for a moment.

Jane Krakowski

Jane Krakowski as JAcqueline in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
via Netflix

Jane Krakowski is our youngest choice for Dr. Kureha, at just 55 years old. Listen, while we hope they select an older actress, we also know that Krakowski would excel in the role, especially after following her journey in the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Although she is more accustomed to comedy and musicals, her performance in One Piece would be a testament to her versatility as an actress. Regarding the age issue, it’s true that no one on this list is actually 141 years old — or anywhere in the world for that matter — but with some prosthetics and the right makeup, we could sure be convinced that she’s Dr. Kureha incarnate.

Gates McFadden

Gates McFadden in Star Trek: Picard
via Prime Video

Gates McFadden has long been a popular fan choice to play Dr. Kureha, and we can see why. With a repertoire that includes titles like Star TrekFringe, and X-Men ’97, McFadden is well-versed in the sci-fi and fantasy realms, so One Piece would be a piece of cake for her, and she’d surely fit right in with the rest of the cast. Her brilliant acting, combined with her appearance — which, oddly enough, reminds us of Kureha (though we might be biased) — would be perfect for the most emotional scenes ahead. On top of that, she’s also in Netflix’s Master of the Universe, which reduces the likelihood of any pay issues.

Diana Lee Inosanto

Diana Lee Inosanto in The Mandalorian
via Disney Plus

Admittedly, many fans and forums are already convinced that Dr. Kureha will be played by Diana Lee Inosanto — and there’s evidence to support this. In recent years, we’ve seen Inosanto portray Morgan Elsbeth in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, but her name is most prominently associated with the 2008 film The Sensei, which she also directed. In addition to being an actress and director, she is a martial artist and stunt performer (evidence number one). As for the second part of the speculation regarding her playing Kureha, Inosanto recently followed Matt Owens and several One Piece accounts on Instagram. We’ll give it to the casting team — this is a strong choice.

The world of anime is ever-expanding, and we must keep up with it. Each year, new series step into the limelight, as older ones come back from the shadows with new seasons or movies to keep the hype going. Needless to say, it works every time.

Regardless of where you are in your anime journey — whether you’ve just finished your fifth series or are starting your 50th — it’s only natural to want to showcase your love for your favorites. For most people, acquiring merchandise is a fundamental part of the fan experience and when it comes to anime, character figures are a must. Of course, there are plenty of other merch options out there, from posters to mugs and t-shirts, but nothing beats the joy of having figures of your most cherished anime characters. There are so many cool ones to choose from, though, that selecting the best becomes an arduous and time-consuming task.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has become a phenomenon in and outside Japan, praised for its stunning art, animation, and writing. And what better way to celebrate its success than by purchasing a top-tier action figure? While most anime characters get statues, this Frieren figure comes with movable arms and legs, 3 sets of optional facial expressions, and 3 sets of optional hands so you can change up how you display her. It also includes a magical effect stand and the protagonist’s staff for extra pizzazz. All in all, it’s an incredible deal.

8. Oshi no Ko — Ai Hoshino figure

If you need some sparkle in your life, how about brightening it up with this Ai Hoshino figure? B-Komachi’s lead idol may not be around anymore, but she certainly left her mark on us. She is perhaps the most iconic character of Oshi no Ko, and this item showcases that flawlessly. Colorful and detailed, the 8.3-inch figure sees Ai propped up by two hearts and with a microphone in hand, doing what she did best — performing.

7. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War — Ichigo Kurosaki figure

Whether you’re a longtime Bleach fan or a newbie who got into it thanks to Thousand-Year Blood War, this figure is for you. With precise detail, it depicts Ichigo Kurosaki in his battle-torn Bankai outfit, swinging his sword during the series’ final arc. The figure is around 8.7 inches tall and (much like the anime) has a dark vibe to it, accentuated by the black special effects surrounding the protagonist.

6. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime — Rimuru Tempest figure

Side by side images of a Rimuru Tempest figure from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
Images via Bandai Namco Arts/Crunchyroll Store

This is easily one of the best Rimuru Tempest figures available. It’s around 9 inches tall and well-detailed, portraying the main character in human form. Rimuru looks very dignified in this figure (as any Demon Lord should), drawing a sword as their hair and coat flow in the wind. Needless to say, it’s a fitting depiction of one of the most powerful characters in anime and a terrific choice for fans of the series.

5. Tanjiro’s Hinokami Kagura figure

Side by side images of a Tanjiro figure from Demon Slayer.

For Demon Slayer fans, this is a must. Standing at approximately 7.5 inches, the figure depicts the series’ protagonist during battle, surrounded by flame effects to replicate his Hinokami Kagura. No matter what perspective you look at it from, this statue is sure to impress with its vibrant colors and details. Plus, Tanjiro’s pose, flowing haori, and the way the flames follow his katana provide an incredible illusion of movement. Overall, this is exactly the kind of anime figure any collector would be lucky to own.

4. My Hero Academia — Dark Deku figure

Side by side images of a Dark Deku figure from My Hero Academia.

Izuku Midoriya’s hero costume has changed a few times in My Hero Academia, but this is definitely one of the coolest versions. With 11.4 inches, this item showcases a raggedy Deku using Blackwhip during his lonely search for All for One in the Dark Hero arc. The figure can be displayed with or without the mask, and it comes with tear stickers so fans can further customize it. How cool is that?

3. Haikyuu!! — Shoyo Hinata figure

This figure is for the volleyball aficionados and those who like to defy the odds. The item is about 9.1 inches tall and features Hinata in his Karasuno team attire, crouching on a tree stump as the crow on his right arm prepares to take flight. It’s a glorious figure that any Haikyuu!! fan will understand the meaning of — and want on their shelf, of course.

2. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 — Suguru Geto figure

Yuji and Gojo usually take the spotlight, but if you have enough figures of them and want to escape the norm, this Geto statue is the way to go. It stands at approximately 10.1 inches and depicts the sorcerer in action, using his Cursed Spirit Manipulation in the Jujutsu Kaisen movie. The cursed energy emanating from this figure is jaw-dropping and perfectly contrasts with Geto’s relaxed yet menacing pose. It’s any fan’s dream gift.

1. One Piece — Luffy’s Gear 5 figure

You can never go wrong with a One Piece figure, especially if it depicts the series’ protagonist in his giant Gear 5 form. Sure, the other gears were pretty cool, but nothing compares to the excitement of seeing Luffy use Gear 5 for the first time in his final battle against Kaido. This detailed 14-inch and 9-pound figure perfectly captures the likeness of Luffy in the anime. Plus, it looks huge on a shelf, so if you want to take your collection from good to awesome, this is an excellent choice.

In December, we received the news that a One Piece remake – The One Piece – was coming, and surprisingly enough, it was met with a slew of positive reactions from fans of the most iconic story in Shonen anime. Despite our loyalty to the 1999 adaptation, we can all admit its flaws, and let’s be honest, they are plentiful.

In fact, the very reason for a new adaptation is to avoid repeating those same flaws and mistakes. According to WIT Studio President George Wada, aside from hoping to reach an even wider audience in a time when anime has become more popular than ever, they also intend to modernize the animation for those who might be intimidated by the 4:3 format and the number of episodes. Admittedly, watching over 1,000 episodes, with lots, and I mean lots of filler, isn’t for the weak.

With these fair and understandable concerns in mind, we’re more excited about the remake than ever before. Lately, WIT has also been adding fuel to the fire by making a few statements regarding The One Piece, but is there a release date among them?

When is The One Piece remake coming out?

via Wit Studio and Netflix

Unfortunately, we still don’t have an exact release date yet, but the show might be coming as early as 2025. While it is still in development, the announcement of a new remake was made in December. Assuming it will take around a year, or a year and a half to conclude its first season, hopefully, 2025 will be the year for the series to hit Netflix. At the same time, WIT confirmed that in August, some big news regarding the remake would be announced, and perhaps, a release date will be on the horizon after all.

The announcements will likely come during One Piece Day on August 10 and 11, 2024. In the meantime, we know that WIT is planning to experiment with its own distinctive style (which you may know from anime like Attack on Titan and Spy x Family), and the number of episodes will also be closely monitored — praise all the gods. Sign us up already.

Our 13 favorite anime mugs for 2024 https://wegotthiscovered.com/sponsored/our-favorite-anime-mugs-this-year/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/sponsored/our-favorite-anime-mugs-this-year/#respond Tue, 02 Jul 2024 21:59:43 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1712089 Mugs are the best kind of merch, if we're being honest. ]]>

To quote Demi Lovato: we like mugs because they’re very comfortable in our hands. They also just so happen to be the best way to introduce a little bit of our inner weeb within the walls of our homes without accidentally driving anyone away with anime. Lowkey fanboyism is a science, okay?

Plus, everyone owns and needs mugs — hence why they make the perfect gift and merch all in one. The only problem is that if you want an anime mug, you might not find particularly good ones in physical stores. More often than not, we must resort to online stores — well, Amazon, really — to find good ones that aren’t just designed with blurred images of Naruto and Sasuke. With that said, if you’re hoping to find the best anime mugs online for your favorite weeb (or for yourself, let’s be honest), you’ve come to the right place.

One Piece devil fruit mug

You might have thought we’d choose the usual straw hat mug that everyone seems to have — it is pretty cool, after all — but we decided to surprise you with this 5-star-rated devil fruit mug instead. It’s a shiny blue mug with the phrase “I’m gonna be king of the pirates” printed on the edge of the Sara Sara no Mi, Model: Axolotl. While it is a bit on the expensive side on Amazon, I can assure you it’s worth the money — I know this because I actually own this one.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Gojo and Geto couple mugs

via Walmart

If you’re hoping to take a break from browsing Amazon and just so happen to be looking for the perfect couple’s mugs, I’ve got you covered. These Jujutsu Kaisen cups from Walmart are not only subtle enough to blend into any dishware set, but they’re also not too shabby when it comes to the price on the Walmart website. To be honest, part of why we find these especially cute is because they feature the most tragic ship in Shonen: Satosugu.

Studio Ghibli’s pretty glass mug

'My Neighbor Totoro' green glass mug from boxlunch
via Boxlunch

It comes as no surprise that Studio Ghibli’s mugs are next level. They’re unique and mesmerizing. This Boxlunch glass mug, though, struck us with nostalgia (because which one of us didn’t have a grandma with glass mugs?), but its green hue is just the perfect touch of modernity to make it one of the most beautiful mugs you can get in 2024. Of course, the Neighbor Totoro design makes it even better, elevating this already near-perfect design to pure perfection.

Pokemon’s Pikachu and Pokeball mugs

Granted, these are not the most modern or refined pieces of merch one can get, but consider this: they’re super fun. This Amazon mug set is the kind that will not only entertain guests with its quirkiness, but if you have little ones at home, it’s the perfect set to guarantee some bonding over chocolate milk while a Pokémon marathon plays in the background. The opportunities to use these are endless — especially now that we have Pokemon Horizons: The Series to re-watch on repeat.

Demon Slayer Kitsune Mask

via Amazon-com

Truth be told, there are plenty of Demon Slayer mugs on Amazon. Sometimes, though, a design just talks to your inner weeb in the best way possible. Yeah, that was this mug for me. With Tanjiro’s mask, a Japanese illustration alluding to Tanjiro’s water-breathing forms, and a black square for the aesthetic, this mug is minimalist, incredibly pretty, and one of the best Demon Slayer mugs out there if I do say so myself.

Spy x Family Anya and Bond mug

The scarcity of Spy x Family mugs out there is criminal. Thankfully, though, the Crunchyroll store actually happens to have one of the best. This cute mug not only shows Anya and Bondarguably the two cutest characters in anime right now — but also includes a bunch of graphic elements alluding to the show, such as Anya’s penguin toy. It’s the kind of mug that will remind you of your comfort anime. However, if you want subtle merch, this mug is not it — but I’d proudly show it to everyone nonetheless.

Oshi No Ko‘s vintage mug

via Amazon.com

Now, for all the Gen Z’ers in the room, I have the perfect Y2K mug for you. This Oshi No Ko Amazon cup has a really cool and nostalgic design, almost reminiscent of early 2000s shirt designs that are now called “vintage.” Stab in the heart aside, this Ai Hoshino mug is not only the perfect merch for our favorite animated Japanese idol, but also an ode to the second season of the anime, which is already set for its 2024 release.

My Hero Academia’s relatable Aizawa mug

My Hero Academia's Shota Aizawa mug from Amazon
Image via Amazon.com

This My Hero Academia mug is possibly the most relatable piece of merch on this list. With a chibi design and Shota Aizawa’s death stare — ready to kill anyone who gets between him and his coffee— this mug perfectly embodies how everyone feels in the morning: always tired. While it may not be particularly aesthetic or suited for a girly home, it is still perfect for Zillennials hoping to mix a little bit of fandom love into their everyday routine.

One Punch Man Saitama mug

Saitama mug from One Punch Man
Image via Amazon.com

We have yet to get a release date for One Punch Man season 3, but once we do — and if it falls in 2024 — we can at least make sure we have a Saitama mug to accompany us throughout the next season. This Amazon mug is simple in the best possible way. Having Saitama’s plain and nonchalant face, with a panel where he’s just saying “OK,” is probably the best representation of One Punch Man I can think of.

Hunter x Hunter‘s heat changing mug

Gon heat activated mug from Hunter x Hunter
via Walmart

Granted, Hunter x Hunter isn’t the most relevant anime in 2024, considering the manga’s dire lack of updates. However, when I saw this heat-changing mug at Walmart, I couldn’t help but add it to this list. In our opinion, heat-activated mugs are some of the coolest merch items out there, and this one activates green flames behind Gon to match his iconic green attire. The only way we could think to make this better is if there existed a blue Killua mug to match, but no pressure, Walmart!

One Piece Chopper mug

Chopper One Piece pink mug
Image via Amazon.com

One can never have too many One Piece mugs — especially when there are so many cool ones on Amazon. For the sake of your wallet, this is our last One Piece pick though, and it just so happens to be a ceramic cup with a wooden lid! It has a lid, everyone! There are also three variations: Chopper’s is pink, Zoro’s is green, and Luffy’s is white. Personally, I think Chopper’s is the cutest, but Luffy’s is a good runner-up.

Attack on Titan‘s most useful mug

Attack on Titan green mug from Walmart
via Walmart

Attack on Titan’s last episode might have aired six months ago, but we’re still grieving our time together with the Survey Corps — and surprisingly, all the Titans. Now that we’re getting used to life without AOT, at least we can get the ODM gear blades of mugs with this green multifunctional Walmart mug. Aside from its color — which will undoubtedly and seamlessly blend in with any kind of dishware — it also works as a sugar cube dispenser, or alternatively, the best mug to carry around without spilling any hot chocolate (and you can stir it anytime you want!).

Sailor Moon ombré mug

Sailor moon dark and light blue ombré mug
via Boxlunch

Sailor Moon is the gift that keeps on giving. It doesn’t matter if you started watching it in 1991 or 2024 — there is always a new sequel, movie, or adaptation on the way. Sailor Moon is just that iconic. In 2024, we’ll be getting the final entry in the Sailor Moon Crystal story, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos: The Movie, and we need the perfect mug for our imminent Sailor Moon marathon. That’s where this BoxLunch ombré mug comes in. It’s pretty, classy, and perfectly channels the Cosmos energy.

Who is David Dastmalchian playing in the ‘One Piece’ live-action and where have I seen him before? https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/who-is-david-dastmalchian-playing-in-the-one-piece-live-action-and-where-have-i-seen-him-before/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/who-is-david-dastmalchian-playing-in-the-one-piece-live-action-and-where-have-i-seen-him-before/#respond Fri, 28 Jun 2024 14:31:21 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1716253 The first season of the 'One Piece' live-action made bank, and it shows. ]]>

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for the One Piece live-action.

The One Piece live-action series was truly a game-changer for live-action adaptations worldwide. It broke the curse and all expectations, and since season 1 aired, everyone has been eagerly counting the days until season 2 arrives. Now that Netflix is finally announcing the cast, the hype is back up.

The upcoming season is expected to cover the entire Saga of Alabasta. While they will allegedly only be adapting one saga, there will be plenty to explore with all five arcs in it. Baroque Works, Smoker, Robin, Chopper, and Vivi are just a few of the many characters and groups that will be introduced throughout the season. We can now cross some names off this list and David Dastmalchian is among those joining Iñaki Godoy and Emily Rudd in season 2. Here’s who he will be playing.

What have I seen David Dastmalchian in?

David Dastmalchian as Piter De Vries in 'Dune' part one
via Warner Bros

Dastmalchian is so incredibly accomplished that you probably know him from a fair number of titles. His film career began in none other than the Oscar-acclaimed film The Dark Knight, where he played Thomas Schiff — one of the many pieces in Joker’s chess game. But that’s not all. He was also in 2015’s Ant-Man, its 2018 and 2023 sequels, Blade Runner 2049, The Suicide Squad, Dune, and Oppenheimer. He’s done it all.

Regarding television series, you probably know Dastmalchian from Gotham, The Flash, and Reprisal, where he played the lead role of Johnson. Despite his television repertoire being slightly shorter than his filmography, it only goes to show that Netflix is truly seeking the best possible actors for this once-in-a-lifetime series.

Who will David Dastmalchian be playing in the One Piece live-action?

Mr.3 sipping tea in episode 74 of One Piece anime
via Toei Animation

Dastmalchian will be playing Baroque Works’ member Mr. 3, also known as Galdino, in the One Piece live-action. If this is your first time hearing of Mr. 3, he is someone who works under Mr. 0 — or, in other words, Crocodile, a Warlord of the Sea. Crocodile created Baroque Works, a criminal syndicate, in hopes of conquering the Alabasta Kingdom and destabilizing its monarchy by blaming Cobra, the king, for the drought the country was facing.

Essentially, Mr. 3 is one of the major antagonists in the arc, and he will be one of the villains in the live-action series. He worked alongside his partner Miss Goldenweek before the Straw Hats came in to help Vivi and Cobra against these tyrants. However, and here are some spoilers ahead, season 2 will likely not be the last we see of Mr. 3. Later on in the manga series, we encounter him again in Impel Down, where he is trying to flee the maximum-security prison with the help of Mr. 2, Buggy, and Luffy.

Mr. 3 has the Wax-Wax Fruit, a Paramecia-type fruit that allows its wielder to not only create but control large amounts of wax. He’s basically a candle-human, capable of trapping and depriving his opponents of oxygen. Despite his dangerous power and status as a villain, he is a complex character — much like every other character in One Piece. We will see him as a villain but also as an ally to Luffy — though he will revert to being one of his opponents in no time.

The upcoming article contains spoilers for One Piece chapter 1119.

Oda did it again, guys — One Piece has another brilliant chapter. Since Egghead started, the action just never stops. First, we had the Vegapunks attacking us. Then, we had the Seraphims. Then came Cipher Pol, CP0, and now, we have the Five Elders after the Straw Hats. What a ride it’s been.

At this point, the end is palpable, and it’s really hitting that we’re in the final saga. We have the giants back, and we’ve finally learned Kuma’s backstory. We’re reunited with Bonney, and the icing on the cake: we know at least half of the secrets that Vegapunk planned on revealing. Generally, a lot is happening on the most technologically advanced island in One Piece. Now that we’re just a few days away from chapter 1119’s release, let’s go over an actual recap and the spoilers.

One Piece chapter 1118 recap

Bonney transforming into Nika using future distortion in One Piece manga chapter 1118
via Mangaplus

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with information at this point in the story — we don’t blame you. That’s where we come in. In chapter 1118, a lot happened, to no one’s surprise. Picking up from the last chapter, we see the Five Elders, notably Warcury, towering over the ships — friends and foes alike — while the rest of the world wonders what happened to Vegapunk’s transmission and whether or not he’s truly dead, blaming Luffy for his demise.

At this point, Luffy, Dorry, and Broggy reach the Giants’ ship, where most of the Straw Hats are already located. Meanwhile, Bonney is being hunted down by the Admirals, with Sanji protecting her — because, duh. Another Elder arrives and this time, it’s Mars. The Straw Hats and the Giants now have two of the Five Elders chasing them. That’s when Mars sets the Giants’ ship aflame — with Brogy and Dorry protecting most of the damage with their shields.

Then comes the highlight of the chapter. Just as everyone aboard the ship is debating what to do, Bonney and Luffy are two steps ahead of everyone. Through Luffy’s inspiring words, Bonney finds the courage to live freely and imagines a future where she has Nika’s powers. One Piece chapter 1118 sees Bonney transforming into Luffy — or Nika, if you will — for the second time in the manga. The chapter ends with the Iron Giant awakening once more, due to Luffy turning Gear 5 mode again. Peak fiction.

One Piece chapter 1119 spoilers

Chapter 1118 of the One Piece manga showing the Iron Giant falling into the ocean
via Mangaplus

While the chapter will only be hitting Mangaplus on Sunday, Japanese fans have already been blessed with chapter 1119, giving everyone else in the world some pointers about what happens in the story. Apparently, the episode starts with the giants cheering for Bonney’s transformation, just as they did for Luffy’s. They see Nika, the prophesied god who will save all the races, in Bonney and Luffy. However, Mars spoils the fun by confirming that it is nothing but a fake transformation.

Mars proceeds to attack everyone aboard the ship, but Luffy warns the giants, the Straw Hats, and Bonney that the Five Elders can recover from fatal attacks and that it’s best to send them flying instead. At this point, Luffy keeps telling Sanji, Bonney, and Franky to hit him, and, despite Bonney’s concerns, they send Mars flying in a combined attack. One less Elder to worry about for now.

Then, two indispensable moments occur: both the Iron Giant and the Den Den Mushi airing Vegapunk’s transmission awaken. The snail resumes the transmission, and although we don’t get any vital information regarding the Will of D, we hear Vegapunk express his wish for the “will” to be passed down as a heritage. We then see reactions from some of the Big Mom Pirates, Vivi, and Morgans.

Meanwhile, the story returns to the fight. Luffy attacks Ju Peter, punching him when he tries to swallow those on the ship. At the same time, Warcury tries to attack the Giants’ ship, while Bonney’s energy runs out, and she reverts to her child form, exhausted on the floor. The chapter ends with one of Warcury’s horns missing, punched off by the Iron Giant, who has Joyboy’s words in his head saying, “Emeth, when the time comes you must.” Luffy reacts with an overexcited “Robot!”

The chapter will be out on Sunday on Mangaplus, and next week, we’ll have to endure a break. Absolutely vicious, I know.

In Chapter 1117 of One Piece, the world reacts to Vegapunk’s revelations from the previous chapter. People are intrigued by the ancient cities submerged under the ocean 800 years ago. Pirates, including the Krieg Pirates, express their desire to claim the sunken treasures, and Mont Blanc Cricket is determined to explore the ocean floor further. On the other hand, Vegapunk refrains from elaborating on the Void Century, labeling further comments as speculative.

The Straw Hats attempt to escape from Egghead, aided by Edison and Stussy who create clouds for the Thousand Sunny’s launch. As they prepare to leave, Nusjuro attacks, but is thwarted by Jimbei and Zoro, allowing the Sunny to escape. Meanwhile, Luffy, Dory, and Broggy head to the Giants’ flagship, leading the Giants in a successful assault against the Navy.

The chapter then shifts to the Iron Giant, confronted by four of the Five Elders, who reveal its connection to an attack on Marijoa 200 years ago. Vegapunk prepares to reveal the “Will of D” during his broadcast, capturing the attention of Blackbeard and Dragon. However, the Elders incapacitate the Iron Giant and stop the broadcast. This highlights their fear of the truth behind the “Will of D,” which appears to be more threatening to them than the forbidden knowledge of the Void Century.

One Piece, based on Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga, has won the love and respect of fans worldwide with the epic tale of Monkey D. Luffy and his quest to become the Pirate King. Since its debut in 1999, the classic has amassed over a thousand episodes, a mix of cannon material directly adapted from the manga, and filler episodes created to give Oda time to advance the manga storyline.

Navigating through One Piece can be a daunting task given its extensive episode count, but by focusing on the canon episodes, fans can ensure they experience the core of Oda’s masterful storytelling. By identifying the canon episodes, fans can enjoy the explicit narrative without interruptions of filler arcs.

Canon episodes are episodes that directly follow the storyline as laid out in the manga, aka the source material. These episodes are critical for understanding the main plot, character developments, and significant events that drive the story forward. Filler episodes, on the other hand, are original stories created by the anime studio to provide a buffer for the manga’s progress but do not contribute to the main plot. While filler episodes can be enjoyable and offer additional character moments and humor, they are not necessary for understanding the main storyline. For viewers looking to stay true to the manga’s narrative, skipping fillers can make the viewing experience more streamlined and focused. This is a definitive guide to all the essential episodes of One Piece.
