Very demure, very mindful.]]>

Brat summer is so over, and demure autumn is so in.

The summer of 2024 has been all about Charli XCX, being a 365 party girl, being messy, sleeping until noon, and doing whatever you want. But after leaving the destruction of Brat Summer in our wake, it’s time to make a 180 degree recovery.

Thanks to @JoolieAnnie on TikTok, we now know what our aesthetic will be leading into the Fall. It’s all about being demure, mindful, and cutesy.

In her first video about her demurity, she showed off her makeup, commenting on how demure she was by not doing too much with her makeup for work. She talks about being very mindful of how she presents herself going to work, how she’s mindful of why she was hired for her job, and how she presented herself going into her interview versus how she shows up every day. It’s very cutesy. Very respectable.

She does simple makeup and dresses in a shirt with only a little chichi, and no chocho.

Being demure is all about not doing too much, dressing for the occasion, having balance, and not trying to outshine or upstage when it’s not appropriate. What started as a joke, has now taken the internet by storm.

Joolie has since been posting videos applying the sensibilities of being demure and being mindful for the rest of her life. Whether that be grabbing a meal after work, buying hangover snacks on the Vegas strip, or getting her nails done, Joolie lets the internet know that everything she does can be considered demure and mindful.

In many cases, she’s joking. A lot of her videos contradict each other, because she’s making a joke by applying the traditional feminine expectation to be demure to everything in her life. By doing so, she’s pointing out the irony of that expectation, because women are in fact complex and multifaceted. Not just demure and cutesy.

But even Vice President Kamala Harris has switched from being Brat to being very demure and mindful. Harris’s campaign posted a video to the sound from one of Joolie’s videos, demonstrating how not so demure and mindful Trump and his Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance are on the campaign trail.

People all over the internet are equating all of their daily activities to being demure, mindful, and cutesy. Suddenly eating a sub sandwich is very demure. Playing Clue is very cutesy. Doing a walk of shame is very mindful.

It can honestly apply to anything, but at its core being demure and mindful is about being appropriate, true to yourself, and considerate of other people.

The bone-headed cop is an overused comedic cliche, from The Simpsons‘ Chief Wiggum to Lt. Frank Drebin of Police Squad, but it has to be said that there’s some truth in every trope. And one TikToker seems to have had the misfortune of meeting the man who proves that sometimes fiction isn’t much different from fact.

User @bre_does_art had to air her frustration with others on the app after she had a unique encounter with a cop that’s equal parts frustrating and hilarious. Breanna wasn’t employing his services to solve a murder or locate a missing diamond, but simply to help her find where the local police station was and this oafish officer couldn’t even manage that.

Bre’s brush with the thickest member of the thin blue line began when she was pulled over by a cop one night because her tail light was broken. It wasn’t a big deal, though, as the cop gave her a fix-it ticket and all she had to do was get the issue sorted and then file the ticket at the police station. The only problem was that, come Tuesday when Bre went to do just that, she couldn’t find the station so she phoned them to get directions. Enter Deputy Dunderhead.

@bre_does_art

I always have very interesting encounters with the police #storytime

♬ original sound – bre_does_art

After clarifying that she wasn’t in an emergency, Bre explained that she was just inquiring how to get to the state police station. The dispatch cop’s response? “Steak? Why are you saying steak?” Upon Bre repeating her question, the cop groused: “Well, if you can’t find it, I guess I can send two officers to come get you, if you really can’t find it.” Bre again clarified that, no, that wasn’t necessary she was just looking for directions. “Why are you even going to the police department?” he grilled.

Bre stated that she needed a police officer to sign her fix-it ticket, to which the dispatcher deployed his dumbest retort yet. “It’s Monday, so they’re probably not even there,” the cop said confidently, displaying the detective nous that no doubt got him the job in the first place. A flabbergasted Bre then told him it was Tuesday to which he replied: “I said it’s Monday!” At this point, Bre decided she was probably better off on her own and ended the call.

In the end, Bre found her way there and after getting her ticket signed (by a cop who made her repeat herself) she handed it in and told the officer on desk about how Google Maps directs people to the local library instead of the police station, implying that this was a big issue that needs fixing. “Oh yeah, we know,” responded the officer, leading Bre to one final realization. As she concludes her video, “Okay, cool, so you’re all like this.”

TikTok couldn’t believe the empty-headedness of these officers, who appear to have transferred en masse from Springfield and graduated from the Police Academy films. “You should issue them a fix-it ticket,” quipped one commenter. “It’s like an episode of Parks and Recreation,” said another, aghast. Someone else may have solved what’s going on with the Maps address, though: “It probably used to take you to the police department but people found the library personnel to be more help in emergencies.”

The average score for a police officer intelligence test is 21, which translates to an IQ of 104, so that’s only slightly above the national average. What’s more, back in 2000 a man unsuccessfully attempted to sue the city of New York after his application to join the police was rejected because he scored 33 on his intelligence test, and he was deemed too smart for the job.

Clearly, a guy who doesn’t know what day it is and is daydreaming about a steak dinner while at work is a preferable choice.

Finding an abandoned yet lovable stray dog on the streets and taking it home is undoubtedly a huge dream for animal lovers. But what’s the only thing better than one stray dog falling you home? Well, two stray dogs, of course.

For one lucky animal lover who hit the bottle a little too hard, two stray dogs showcased their unwavering loyalty over on TikTok by following home a stranger who had just finished an intense drinking session at a local pub. Luckily for us, the smile-inducing magic moment was recorded by his daughter, who stumbled upon the two dogs happily in bed with her dad.

As the daughter focuses the camera on the phone, the funniest part about the entire interaction is how comfortable the stray dogs look, and how they both make it seem as though the daughter is interrupting their precious sleeping time with the dad — even despite the dogs not even belonging at the house in the first place.

As hilarious as the situation is, bringing home stray dogs is actually quite unheard of, with ASPCA reporting that only 6% of owners adopted a dog after rescuing it as a stray. This hugely outlines the “Adopt, don’t shop” slogan, which encourages new pet owners to adopt stray dogs from local shelters rather than shop around from private breeders or pet stores who unethically breed for greater profit.

So, get out there and adopt a stray dog who desperately needs a home. Just remember, they’re probably going to hog the covers, but at least they’ll be there for you when you’re stumbling home drunk from the bar.

A word of advice. Generally speaking, never pay someone for a service upfront in full before they provide it. It’s one thing to wait for a Big Mac after paying, but it’s quite another to agree to a very vague deposit from a cold-caller.

This rule rings true even if the hustlers in question are just starting middle school, a rule that TikTok‘s @fairyniceofyou seems to have forgotten. And indeed, a learning experience was quick to follow her lapse in judgement. The twist is that she learned that her new neighborhood was full of some alright kids.

The three-and-a-half minute storytime above lays out all the background details. Mandie was vibing in her new house one morning, having just moved to the neighborhood about a week ago, when she heard someone at the front door. She goes to greet her visitor, dreading the prospect of talking to an adult this early, and is delighted to see a group of young kids instead.

The kids ask if they can fix up Mandie’s lawn for a fee of $30, but as Mandie only had $18.50 in cash, they eagerly struck a deal. Mandie then hands the money to the kids, who report that they’ll be back as soon as they grab their gear from one of their parents’ houses. They leave, and that’s when it dawns on Mandie that she may have just been scammed.

Luckily, that wasn’t the case. The kids turned out to be true to their word, and were in fact raising money to rebuild their neighborhood’s outdoor hangout area. Mandie, of course, immediately tracked down 12 more dollars in cash when the kids turned out to be the real deal.

@fairyniceofyou

these kids are awesome! they told me not to buy a lawnmower so they could come back and asked me lots of questions about myself. I love them! They’re trying to raise money to rebuild their outdoor hangout area. I went and got $12 more out (in addition to the $18 I originally gave them) so I could pay them $30 total bc they deserved it. Great service, 10/10 would recommend to the neighbors 🫶🏼 #fypage #fypシ゚viral #foryoupage #faithinhumanityrestored #neighborhoodkids #raisedright

♬ Light of Night – Gakuen

The cherry on top? They did a fantastic job on her lawn.

Mandie is now a loyal customer of the Lawn Goonies, whose landscaping competence is only matched by how pleasant their personnel is, and all for the very low cost of $30 a job. To say that’s a deal and a half is an understatement. According to Workwave.com, the average monthly cost of lawn care is $100, with the rough range being from $65 to $150. The lowest extreme of these costs is $40, while the highest extreme is $900.

In other words, Mandie lucked out here, and if the Lawn Goonies keep up the good work that she allowed them to start, maybe they’ll be able to charge $900 a job one day. Follow your dreams, kids.

The modern world is evolving on a daily basis, and as our technologies and jobs progress, so too do our criminals.

Crime looks a lot different in 2024 than it did a few decades back, and that leaves some people at a loss when they’re faced up with a modern ne’er-do-well . Some people, but not TikTok user Cyd (@loveecydney), who found herself more than qualified to out a scammer when they made the attempt to pull one over on her.

Cyd took to TikTok to expose a woman she dubs “Scammy Sammy” after Sammy, a former friend of Cyd’s, stole the TikToker’s information and used it to pay for a trip overseas. Referring to the Los Angeles based content creator as a “career criminal,” Cyd provides all the receipts necessary to prove that Sammy used her credit cards to pay for a trip to Paris, including a week-long Airbnb that ran Cyd nearly $1,000, and she even had the gall to post the entire experience to social media.

Sammy honestly made it far too easy for Cyd to expose her, as she documented her stolen trip in real time on Instagram. As a result, Cyd provided a thorough dressing-down of her former friend, and she was joined by plenty of viewers in the comment section of her video, who promptly swooped into condemn Sammy’s actions and encourage Cyd to pursue legal action.

Thankfully, our credit card companies have protections for instances exactly like this. And, since Cyd was so on top of it, it seems she successfully managed to shut down her cards, dispute those fraudulent charges, and hopefully throw a wrench into Sammy’s stolen vaycay. She also outed a known scammer, protecting others in Sammy’s circle from being similarly taken advantage of.

However. tt doesn’t seem that she pursued legal action — at least not yet. Cyd hasn’t discussed the Sammy issue much since she posted her initial video, which could indicate that she’s in the midst of legal proceedings. If she decides to go that route, Sammy could face serious consequences. Credit card fraud can carry fines up to $10,000 and, in serious cases, jail time of up to ten years.

Sammy could be facing some major consequences, should Cyd choose to pursue the issue, but her reputation’s taken a hit regardless of legal action. Thanks to Cyd’s exposing video, she’s had no choice but to private several of her social media accounts, and disallow comments on her own TikTok videos. She clearly received an influx of questions about her scammy behavior, and chose to silence the objections rather than face up to her actions.

From a microwave trick to anxiety-inducing bugs in the pantry, there is no shortage of things that can go wrong in the kitchen. Usually you can count on your coffee maker to run smoothly… but not always.

TikTok user @emmarthompsonn was frustrated when she turned on her Nespresso… and the machine just kept going. Instead of making the perfect amount of coffee (enough for one cup… or the first cup of the day if you drink caffeine like Lorelai Gilmore), the Nepresso went rogue and filled up another half a cup.

Emma was, naturally, upset since the machine cost $150 and yelled at it, which was definitely the right reaction. So, what do you do when your Nespresso has a mind of its own and has decided to mess with you and ruin your day before it’s even started? Do you hope a new Nespresso works better while mourning the lower amount in your bank account? Do you buy another type of coffee machine (same problem)? What about going to a coffee shop every morning and at least knowing that a hot cup is waiting for you, although, again, that adds up quickly? There’s no great answer here.

Thankfully, fellow coffee lovers came to the comment section to help out because everyone agrees this is a terrible and unfair problem. While some thought she had it on the declare or cleaning setting, TikTok user @coletaneademoments might have saved the day with the most logical explanation: if you use a pod that isn’t the Nespresso brand, it won’t work properly. Emma replied “That makes so much sense, it’s only my Starbucks ones that do it.”

According to the Nespresso website, this specific problem would be called “leakage or unusual coffee flow.” The brand says the water tank could be in poor shape or not in the right spot. Since, according to Statista.com, 65.8% of people answering a survey said they make coffee themselves vs. buying it, it’s definitely important to find a machine that doesn’t go wild.

It sounds like Emma never did get her machine to work properly, but things worked out for her in the end. She shared a TikTok a little while later promoting Cometeer Coffee and said “so apparently you can make a good coffee at home now without a machine.” Everyone deserves the peace of mind that they can enjoy their morning brew without worrying about a machine taking over their kitchen.

OTV: What happened to Abe and Wendy? https://wegotthiscovered.com/social-media/otv-what-happened-to-abe-and-wendy/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/social-media/otv-what-happened-to-abe-and-wendy/#respond Tue, 13 Aug 2024 12:19:29 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1738396 The couple got married on stream, but their happy-ever-after didn't last long.]]>

In November 2022, Twitch streamers and power couple, Abe and Wendy, better known as BaboAbe and Natsumiii, married on stream to a massive audience. However, just eight short months later, the couple are already divorced, so what happened?

For those unfamiliar with the couple, both were members of Offline TV, a group of creators who create video content and livestreams. The group was started by Pokimane and their content has brought joy to hundreds of thousands of viewers over the years.

Anyways, back to Abe and Wendy. On July 31st, 2023, Abe announced on X that he and Wendy were no longer together. The two had been married since November 2022, and had been dating for six years. Despite how serious their relationship was Abe’s message was somewhat brief, and lacked many details which got fans speculating as to whether this break-up was really an amicable one.

Fan speculation

Naturally fans of the group began to analyze the situation, breaking down Abe’s specific wording in his post to X as well as Wendy’s response to his statement. One individual on Reddit went deep with their analysis, pointing out that, unlike most public breakups, Abe did not wish his partner well and what’s more, he even pushed the blame for the breakup off of himself.

Compare this to another Twitch couple, Fulsie and Edison, who were also married, but sadly broke up. During their split, both made their own statements with their own perspectives and wished each other the best. This is pretty standard for a public relationship of this nature, sometimes people just drift apart, there is no bad blood and so they can part ways amicably. Abe and Wendy didn’t do this which instantly got people thinking about what could have happened.

The fallout from the breakup certainly indicates that there may be some bad blood between the former husband and wife – something bad happened that resulted in Abe and Wendy ending things. For many, the logical conclusion was that Wendy had cheated on Abe – she didn’t make a statement of her own at the time, simply reposting Abe’s post and liking it. Fans speculated that this could be because she was feeling guilty for her actions.

Did Wendy cheat on Abe?

The infidelity rumor began spreading like wildfire and it only got stronger when neither party denied the rumor despite almost certainly being aware of what their fans were saying. During his comeback stream two months later Abe skirted around the subject, but once again, he did not deny the rumor and although he did not say anything negative about his ex-wife, he didn’t say anything positive either. Sometimes it’s the words people don’t say that tell you everything you need to know.

The final piece of evidence is the fact that other members of OTV, including Pokimane, unfollowed Wendy, suggesting that they were certainly taking Abe’s side here.

Of course, neither have confirmed the reason for their split and they probably never will. It seems Abe and Wendy just want to move on from the whole ordeal and it’s best we just let them.

If there’s one thing TikTok always delivers besides kitchen hacks and viral recipes, it’s deliciously juicy feuds. In recent weeks, we’ve witnessed beefs between nurses and patients, beefs at pizzerias and beefs between complete strangers on the beach

This time, the algorithm’s latest feud comes courtesy of a house cleaner and the client she was forced to part ways with. The storytime video, which has amassed over 2 million views, was shared by TikTok user Corinne, who operates the cleaning page Suds N’ Stuff, and whose client did something questionable at best, condescending at worst.

According to the video, Corrine had been cleaning one of her client’s houses for about six months on a bi-weekly basis. She referred to the client as having one of her favorite houses to clean, and said the unnamed woman usually kept the house “pretty” immaculate. During one cleaning session at the house, however, Corrine noticed something was “a little off.”

The clean, which typically took her just over one hour, took longer than usual, and Corrine had noticed a scattering of pennies left in random places throughout the house. She also noticed that the towels were folded upside down, something that was “not the norm” during her usual shifts. At first, Corrine thought nothing of these discrepancies, and simply collected the pennies in a coin tray and re-folded the towels.

When the client returned home, she informed Corrine that she had “passed the penny test”, which left Corrine with a bad taste in her mouth. It appeared the client had purposefully left spare pennies throughout the house as a “test” to see whether Corrine was adequately scouring the house to clean, which made her feel as though the client “doesn’t trust my skill.”

“I thought we had a better relationship than that,” Corrine said of the test, before revealing that the interaction forced her to fire — or “politely break up with” — the client. Naturally, the so-called penny test sparked debate in the comments section, with people mostly agreeing with Corinne that the maneuver is “super condescending.”

Others said the tactic would have “sent me into a rage”, describing the penny test as “a big ick.” Fellow cleaners also offered their thoughts, saying the client “should’ve communicated” if she thought something was not up to scratch. “If there’s no trust, there’s no job.”

In a follow-up video, Corrine revealed that the client reached out to her after they parted ways, but said she still didn’t feel comfortable returning to her cleaning duties for her. “I can hear the hurt in your voice,” one user surmised, “you did the right thing.”

It appears it’s all water on the bridge for Corrine, who has continued sharing cleaning hacks and is therefore rightfully collecting her pennies.

The beach is for relaxation, unwinding, and catching rays, and woe betide anyone who stands in our sunlight. As such, one creepy beach-goer has attracted the ire of the internet, after a video of him hitting on a disinterested woman has gone viral on TikTok.

In a clip uploaded by user Lindsey @goetz.regrets, a man can be seen standing ominously nearby as she minds her own business on the sand, prompting her to question: “what the f**k is going on?”. Sometimes you want to lap up the sun and read a book in peace, but the unnamed man seems hell-bent on interrupting Lindsey’s day, coming right out of the gate and asking if she’s single.

His quickly-declining attempt at a pickup should’ve reached its natural end when Lindsey replied “I’m not looking,” but the interaction only heats up from there. Rather than taking the hint and suffering a minuscule blow to the ego, the man appears angry when noticing Lindsey’s camera. “Why are you filming?,” he asks, before repeatedly questioning her: “can I help you?”.

Of course, Lindsey herself could’ve asked the very same question when he was lurking behind her, but that irony seems to be lost on him. “I just like to talk to strangers on the beach, are you kidding me?”, the man asks, before quickly scurrying away.

Many took note of the man’s “aggressive switch-up” after noticing the camera, while others questioned his audacity in asking “can I help you?” when it was him who initiated the interaction in the first place.

Elsewhere, viewers wrote that the man’s “real personality [shone] through,” and even suggested alternative ways of thwarting the advance, like declaring “I don’t have any change” (ouch). “The way HE said can I help you like he wasn’t imposing on your beach time,” another user quipped. While it’s all well and good to shoot your shot in some instances, hitting on someone requires the ability to read the room, which this man appears unable to do.

“Normalize taking a hint,” one user surmised, with others similarly questioning “why can they not leave us alone?” Unfortunately, Lindsey isn’t the only one tasked with shooing away men, with a fellow TikToker going viral earlier this month after enduring a similar interaction, also on a beach.

Men, if you’re reading this, how about we just let people enjoy their beach time uninterrupted?

‘That’s your daddy now’: Guy seals his own fate when he brings the friend who’s ‘good with mums’ by his house https://wegotthiscovered.com/social-media/thats-your-daddy-now-guy-seals-his-own-fate-when-he-brings-the-friend-whos-good-with-mums-by-his-house/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/social-media/thats-your-daddy-now-guy-seals-his-own-fate-when-he-brings-the-friend-whos-good-with-mums-by-his-house/#respond Mon, 12 Aug 2024 22:43:57 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1738259 What did you think was going to happen, Charlie?]]>

Every man — and, indeed, every human — has their own, unique sexual peak. But if we absolutely had to define the universal average age of that peak, then it would be right around the age where they’re definitely attracted to their partner, but they’d be lying if they said their partner’s mom — or anyone’s mom, really —wasn’t piquing their interest, too.

The thing is, when you’ve appeared on the Netflix reality show Too Hot to Handle, chances are you’ve internalized the notion that your sexual peak is going to go strong for the next handful of decades. You’re therefore inclined — nay, have a social responsibility — to rizz up everyone in sight, including your friend’s mom.

But Charlie Jeer seems to have missed this particular memo, as the recent Too Hot to Handle alum thought it would be a wise move to bring fellow contestant Chris Aalli — who Charlie befriended on the latest season, which just wrapped earlier this month — over to his house. Sure enough, Chris nestled himself firmly into Charlie’s mother’s heart in a matter of seconds, whipping out all manner of gentle-yet-involved dance moves for the occasion. If Chris hadn’t already moved on from Sabrina, he certainly has now.

Charlie jokes at the end of the TikTok that he should never bring Chris to his house ever again, but the mirthful chuckle he gives indicates that he’s just as amused by this development as his mom seems to be.

Chris and Charlie both hail from England — Chris from Manchester, Charlie from Kent — and were two of the four British contestants on season six of Too Hot to Handle. They both also finished as runner-ups on the season, narrowly missing out on the $125,000 cash pool prize. But, per People, Charlie still emerged as a winner alongside partner Katherine LaPrell, as the pair have continued their relationship following the show’s conclusion. As Charlie puts it:

I really wanted to make sure that whilst I was in there, I didn’t rush anything or make anything happen too quickly. And I think that is one reason why we have been so solid together. Because I didn’t want to ask her to be my girlfriend on the show or tell her I loved her on the show, even though I kind of knew it and felt it. I wanted to give us a chance on the outside.

But Chris, for his part, seems all too happy to rush things with Charlie’s mom, and Charlie’s mom appears to have equal or greater keenness for that ordeal. So watch out, Too Hot to Handle season seven; Chris and Mumsy Jeer seem like prime guest material from our standpoint.

‘Even Sesame Street knew’: Yearly reminder that decades before he was president, ‘Sesame Street’ was onto ‘Donald Grump’ https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/even-sesame-street-knew-yearly-reminder-that-decades-before-he-was-president-sesame-street-was-onto-donald-grump/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/even-sesame-street-knew-yearly-reminder-that-decades-before-he-was-president-sesame-street-was-onto-donald-grump/#respond Mon, 12 Aug 2024 21:06:37 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1738208 'Whose name equals trash, to you and to me?']]>

For more than a decade now, the vast majority of America — and much of the rest of the world — has been onto Donald Trump’s game.

He thrives on controversy, hateful attacks, and fabricated issues, and years of petulant pushback have proven that he’d rather break the board in half than play a fair game. As a result, most of us are entirely disillusioned when it comes to the former president, but it took us far too long to realize the threat he posed to the United States of America.

You know who wasn’t surprised to discover Trump’s true colors? Sesame Street. Apparently thriving in its Simpsons era, the children’s television show established — a good two decades before the presidency was a glimmer in his eye — that “Donald Grump” was the worst kind of human.

A clip from the treasured educational program has been recirculating as the Trump campaign trades blows with Kamala Harris, re-establishing that this man has been a crook, a liar, and a braggart for longer than some of us have been alive. Exposed for the world to see by TikToker @savvy_from_maine, the series dedicated an entire song to the one and only “Donald Grump,” the man with “the most trash of any grouch in the world.”

Every line from the glorious little segment is comedy gold, particularly now that Trump’s shady business dealings and outright criminal behavior have been exposed. He does, in fact, plaster his name “on every piece of trash in town,” offers up the “best rubbish and scuzz” via products like Trump Steaks, and as his orange-haired caricature petulantly notes, he boasts “more trash” than the rest of us combined.

The fact that this blatant, harsh criticism of Trump came from Sesame Street makes the video all the better, particularly considering how long ago the episode aired. Sesame Street has been poking fun at the overtly villainous and trash-hoarding “Grump” for decades now, and he’s far from the only high-profile figure the program has targeted. Trump himself has come under fire numerous times, but he joins hundreds of others in getting a dressing-down from the children’s show.

It’s kind of inevitable, given Sesame Street’s tenure; the show has been on the air since 1969 and in 2023, it celebrated its 54th season. Over the years, it has put out more than 4,500 episodes in total, educating youths on any range of vital early development topics and taking shots at the controlling, heartless jerks of the world in the process.

‘That’s a ride or die bestie’: Med school student forgets to prepare for his presentation, so his friend steps in to save him with ingenious plan https://wegotthiscovered.com/social-media/med-school-student-forgets-to-prepare-for-his-presentation-so-his-friend-steps-in-to-save-him-with-ingenious-plan/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/social-media/med-school-student-forgets-to-prepare-for-his-presentation-so-his-friend-steps-in-to-save-him-with-ingenious-plan/#respond Mon, 12 Aug 2024 19:08:02 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1738111 Cheating your way through med school is certainly a choice. Not a good choice, but a choice nonetheless. ]]>

We all need a friend who’s willing to commit academic fraud for our sake. Someone who would stick a note on their back to save us from failing a test or even pretend to have a coughing fit just to distract the professor so we can check our phones. Not that I would know anything about these tactics, of course. Duh.

But there is a TikTok user who knows a thing or two about having a friend who truly has his back. Andreas Polychronis, also known as @andreaspoly, recently shared a video on the platform that perfectly captured quite a familiar scene in a university classroom: the dreadful atmosphere of a public presentation doomed to fail.

In this video, we see a med student giving a presentation, but what you may not immediately notice is that he’s getting a little help from his friend. If you look closely, the student sitting in the front row has a heavily scribbled-upon piece of paper leaning against his shin. And if you take an even closer look, you can see that the student giving the presentation is quite obviously reading from the paper as he glances downward.

We can’t tell if the professor noticed something off about this student’s presentation. Maybe the teacher just didn’t have the right angle to spot the helpful friend in the front row. Truthfully, though, it doesn’t even matter, because despite the student’s poor presenting skills, TikTok users were definitely impressed by the friend’s quick thinking and willingness to help. “That’s a ride-or-die bestie,” one user commented. “A win is a win,” said another.

Thankfully, though, we’re not the only ones questioning the situation’s implications. While we can certainly appreciate a good friend, the biggest question remains: why is a medical student neglecting their studies? Maybe he forgot about the presentation — hey, it happens — but as another user pointed out, “I don’t want him to be my doctor.” What if I told you though, this med student isn’t the only one forgetting a presentation or two?

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but according to ResearchGate, a study shows that “academic dishonesty among students in medical school ranges from 0% to 58%.” Admittedly, this study is from 2013, but with today’s technological advances, it’s easy to imagine that the numbers have most certainly increased. Honestly, I never thought it would be possible to cheat your way through med school, but hey, TikTok always has a way of proving me wrong.
